Races

EARTH PONIES
Earth ponies are strong and humble members of the pony race. They tend to be kind and gentle, with a touch of silliness from time to time.

PEGASI
The Pegasi are a winged race of ponies, responsible for controlling the weather in Equestria. They have the ability to walk on clouds as well. Pegasi are often brash and adventurous except when their not.

UNICORNS
Unicorns are the horned ponies of Equestria, with the ability to use magic. Unicorns sometimes have a tendency to be self-centered.

ALICORNS Limited to 8% of the current player character population.
Alicorns have both wings and horns, allowing them to fly as well as use magic. The most famous alicorns are the twin princesses of Equestria, Celestia and Luna.

GRYPHONS
One of the few intelligent creatures besides ponies, gryphons are a mix of two different things: Eagles and lions. Their front half is that of an eagle, head, wings, claws, etc. The back half, the torso, hind legs, and tail, are that of a lion. Gryphons are very strong creatures, with the ability to fly. They also have a tendency to be show-offs and arrogant.

BUFFALO
Another of the intelligent creatures of Equestria, the buffalo inhabit the wild Buffalo plains in the east of Equestria. They're large, fast, and strong. They used to coexist with the citizens of Appleoosa, but since the return of the dragons, the buffalo have become hostile towards the ponies, often attacking the supply trains connecting Appleoosa to the rest of Equestria.

ZEBRAS
Zebras are a very mysterious race. They seem to live in the Everfree forest, a place that cannot be touched by Equestria's magic. They create potions and medicines out of herbs and plants, often with magical-seeming effects.

DIAMOND DOG
Diamond dogs live underground, spending most of their lives mining for gems. They value the shining stones more highly than nearly anything. Recently, some individuals have started hiring the dogs as grunts, enticing them with a payload of gemstones.

MINOTAUR
A minotaur is a hybrid creature, part man, part goat. They're still somewhat rare in Equestria, but are beginning to appear in greater numbers. The posses great strength, and opposable thumbs, which have been seen to be quite useful in warfare.

HIPPOGRIFF
A hippogriff is a very rare creature, possibly some kind of ancient hybrid. It's a creature with the wings of an eagle, the body of a lion, and the head of a pony.

Hatchling, Dragons
Dragon hatchling's are the youngest type of dragon and tend to require constant attention. Rare in Equestria, these little guys are extremely common in the Alliance. With thick scales and the ability to breath fire hatchling's can be dangerous, but lack the strength and stamina to make themselves truly threatening.

Teen, Dragons Become available as a player race at the start of ch 3. Alliance only
Older dragons of this type are stronger and tougher than their hatchling brethren and tend to have a nasty temper.

Adult, Dragons Mod/Admin protagonists
Fire spewing beasts that are out for themselves the adult dragons make up only a small portion of the Alliances numbers.

Elder, Dragons Mod/Admin protagonists
Counting Darkfang there are only twelve known Elder dragons in the world, each showing of abilities vastly beyond that of any other members of their race. With no two elders sharing the same abilities it makes many wonder about just how similiar the adults are.

Changlings Mod/Admin protagonists
A race of shapeshifters the mysterious changeling race feeds upon the emotions of others to sustain themselves with both Love and Hate providing them with the greatest sustenance. Many note their lack of movement as unsettling given the anger surrounding the war so far.

Faction Overview:
This section is to provide a basic overview of the various factions within DiE and how they relate to each other. Later on more detailed and specific information will be provided within this document.

At the heart of DiE there are a total of four factions involved each with a number of sub factions. The major ones are Equestria, Draconic Alliance, and Neutrals as of chapter 2. The fourth is the Changeling horde, but they are not available as a player faction and at the time of this writing (Mid ch 2) are uninvolved in the current conflict.

Equestria
The primary setting and the largest kingdom of ponykind, Equestria has the largest collection of sub-factions of the three. Ruled over by the Princesses Celestia and Luna this nation has known peace for many years till recently.

Civilians – This covers anyone not enlisted within any of the three military groups of Equestria who wishes to see their homeland prevail.

Royal Guard – The oldest military group in Equestria, the Royal Guard can trace their beginning back over 1000 years to the original defeat of Discord. Once tasked with defending and policing all of Equestria, the Royal Guard have seen that duty shrunken to defending the princesses and policing Equestria. This is as much to do with the guard’s stringent requirements and limited personal as to their failure to repel the assault on Canterlot’s vaults. The current head of the Royal Guard is Captain Shining Armor.

Equestrian Guard – The largest and most numerous group within the Royal Guard, the Equestrian Guard welcomes ponies and others of all types within its ranks. Originally tasked with defending and policing Equestria this group has recently seen its mission changed to becoming Equestria’s police force.

Celestial Caviler’s – The oldest and often considered the most prestige’s order of the four provides security to Princess Celestia herself and those she deems important. Whenever any pony things of a member of the Royal Guard they often picture these individuals. Like the Equestrian Guard the Caviler’s allow anypony able to pass their requirements to join their ranks, though a full 80% of the order is made up of Pegasus with the rest split evenly between ponies, unicorns, and a few others.

Knights of Luna – The second oldest order and until Princess Luna’s return the black sheep of the Royal Guard. Kept alive by Celestia’s hope for her sister, the order was the smallest of any and held the most stringent of requirements to join. With Luna’s return three years ago they are still the smallest of the groups, but often the most eager to prove themselves. Though they are more actively recruiting the knights of Luna are almost entirely made up of Pegasus with only a few unicorns and ponies willing to join the order.

Star Wardens – The youngest of the four orders the Star Warden’s are made up entirely of unicorns are charged with keeping the secrets in the various arcane libraries across Equestria, with the largest in Canterlot. Though rarely seen few wish to test the limits of a Warden.

Wonderbolts – Is an all Pegasus unit often billed as Equestria’s greatest acrobatics team. They’re also the first line of defense when it coems to quick response times. Unlike other groups the Wonderbolts are made up of two squads of six pegasus each. It’s often said the requirements to make the Wonderbolts makes those required of Celestia’s Cavaliers or the Knights of Luna sound like the training regime.

Peacekeepers – Is a recent edition to Equestria, originally founded at the start of the Second Dragon War the Peacekeepers were originally tasked with finding the new Element’s of Harmony, but have quickly become the primary defensive army of Equestria. The Peacekeepers are lead by Field Marshal Twilight Sparkle.

Army – Structured as a combined force of various ponies the Army is the primary force within the Peacekeepers. A full three times as large as the Royal Guard now, the Army has units station in nearly every city along the borders.

Freelancers – A recent creation of General Payne Sr the Freelancers are a command less squad of ponies that report directly to the Army’s generals or the Field Marshal herself. Able to move freely and pick their own objectives these teams are generally considered loose cannons by the normal rank and file. Currently though there are only two Freelancer squads in existence, the X-Colt lead by Clockwork, and a recently formed squad headed by Lighting Blast. (as of ch 1)

Navy – Originally a part of the Royal Guard, the Navy handles all of Equestria’s sea and airship resources. Made up largely of transferred members of the Royal Guard the Navy finds itself under equipped to handle the Alliance’s fleet of airships.

S.E.A. Ponies – The Navy’s answer to the Freelancers they only report to the admirals of the Navy and Field Marshal Twilight Sparkle herself. Currently there first team is being formed, while a single man unit has been sent into the field.

Elite Magical Ponies (E.M.P.) – A secretive group of twenty unicorns hoof picked and trained by Twilight Sparkle that has recently been deployed to nearly every major regiment. Listed as reconnaissance and reporting ponies attached to the command structure few commanders believe that is their sole purpose. The fact that each can communicate with the others or the Field Marshal through a dragon flame like spell has caused more to wonder what their true purpose is.

Draconic Alliance
Commanded the Council of 13 and headed by Darkfang the Draconic Alliance is a massive force of dragons of all ages and sizes along with buffalo, gryphon’s, zebra’s and any other race willing to place themselves beneath the dragon’s claw.

13 Broods – Members of the Alliance that serve one of the elders are considered to be a part of their brood. This often grants them an extra measure of prestige depending on which they serve in. (Broods will be listed)

Zebra homeland – A major part of the Alliance the zebra’s home nation has thrown it’s full weight behind Darkfang. (Name likely to change)

Buffalo Plains – Revering dragons and pushed from their ancestral homes by Equestria the Buffalo of the plains have sided with the Alliance with minimal effort. (Name likely to change)

Gryphon tribes – Without a real nation of their own the various gryphon tribes have eagerly signed on with the Alliance for a chance to fight and for the all the spoils they can get their claws on.

Neutral
This faction represents all individuals who have no real concern for the outcome of the war between Equestria and the Draconic Alliance.

Bounty hunters

Mercenaries

Unaligned Gryphon Tribes

Skypirates

Equestria Mafia

Changelings
They feed upon emotion and can take anypony’s shape. Their hunger is best sated upon hate or love, yet no pony knows what they will do.

Peacekeepers rank structure
The following are all the ranks for the Peacekeeper ground forces.

Ground Forces
Officers:
Field Marshal of the Peacekeepers: Supreme commander of all the Peacekeeper forces and has final say in any operation. Position only exists during wartime, as during peace the rank of General handles all oversight for their region and report to the Princesses.

General: Ranks above Lt. Generals There can only be Eight Generals at any one point. Generals are given command over an operational theater or region. Currently only four regions in use currently while three generals positions remain unfulfilled.

Lieutenant General: Ranks above Major Generals. Typically commands a corps-sized unit.

Major General: Ranks above Brigadier Generals. Typically commands division-sized units, as well as commandants of Army service schools and commanding officers.

Brigadier General: Ranks above Colonels. Typically serves as Deputy Commander to the Commanding General of a division and assists in overseeing the planning and coordination of a mission. In an infantry brigade not attached to a division, a Brigadier General serves as the unit's commander.

Colonel: Ranks above Lt. Colonels. Colonels usually command infantry brigades.

Lieutenant Colonel: Ranks above Major. Typically commands a battalion-sized unit. A lieutenant colonel may also serve as a brigade, regiment, or task force Executive Officer.

Major: Ranks above Captains. A major in the U.S. Army typically serves as a battalion executive officer (XO) or as the battalion operations officer (S3). A major can also serve as a primary staff officer for a regiment, brigade or task force in the areas concerning personnel, logistical and operations. A major will also be a staff officer / action officer on higher staffs and headquarters.

Captain: Ranks above First Lieutenants. Generally commands company-sized units. When given such a command, they bear the title Company Commander. Captains also instruct at service schools and combat training centers and are often staff officers at the battalion level.

First Lieutenant: Ranks above Second Lieutenants. Position can include leading a specialty platoon, or assignment as the executive officer for a company-sized unit.

Second Lieutenant: Entry level for Commissioned Officers, only ranks above enlisted ponies and Non-commissioned Officers. Typically commands a platoon-size element.

Non-commissioned Officers:
Sergeant Major: Ranks above First Sergeants. Field officers, third in command of their regiments (after their colonels and lieutenant colonels).

First Sergeant: Ranks above Master Sergeants. First Sergeants are generally the senior non-commissioned officers of company sized units. Also, they are second in command in a company.

Sergeant First Class: Ranks above Staff Sergeants. Sergeant First Class is typically in charge of anywhere from 18 soldiers and 4 artillery in an artillery platoon to 40 soldiers in a rifle platoon.

Staff Sergeant: Ranks above Sergeants. Staff Sergeants are generally placed in charge of squads, but can also act as platoon sergeants in the absence of a Sergeant First Class. In support units, Staff Sergeants ordinarily hold headquarters positions because of the number of slots available for SSG in these units. Staff Sergeants are typically assigned as a squad leader or Company Operations Non-commissioned Officer in Charge at the company level, but may also hold other positions depending on the type of unit.

Sergeant: Ranks above Corporals. Sergeants in the infantry, for example, lead fire teams of four men. There are two fire teams in a 9-man rifle squad, which is led by a staff sergeant.

Corporal: Ranks above Specialist and Private First Classes. a corporal is a non-commissioned officer and may direct the activities of other soldiers A soldier may be promoted to corporal directly from the rank of private first class or promoted from specialist. Corporals can also be Lawyers.

Enlisted Ponies:
Specialist: Ranks above Private First Class. Specialists are not considered junior non-commissioned officers. The rank of Specialist is the typical rank to which Privates First Class are promoted. It is granted far more often than corporal.

Private First Class: Ranks above Private. They don't do anything special. The rank is given to those who show experience.

Private: The basic soldier. Entry level for Enlisted Ponies.

Naval Forces
Officers
Fleet Admiral: Fleet Admiral, for all intents and purposes, is the same as Rear Admiral, with the exception that all non-combat command operations are delegated out to Rear Admirals, thus leaving the Fleet Admiral solely responsible for combat operations.

Rear Admiral: Overall command of all vessels, Flight regiments, and non-combat operations.

Captain: Captains serve as overall force commanders for each of the Naval combat brigades, which consist of two Action Groups, two Divisions of Flight personnel, or one of each. The majority of vessel Action Groups have not yet entered service, leaving most Naval Captains in command of units that are still being assembled. Captains can also be assigned overall command of the Naval Academy.

Commander: Command officers for either a division of Flight personnel, or an Action Group of three or more vessels.

Lieutenant Commander: In the field, LTC's serve as regimental officers in command of Flight regiments. Each regiment has at least one LTC, often with LTs command smaller divisions within the regiment.

Lieutenant: Lieutenants serve as field commanders and boatswains, typically commanding an element of a vessel or Flight group. These elements include Engineering, Security, Supply, Intelligence, Ordinance, Communications, Medical, etc.

Junior Lieutenant: Junior Lieutenants serve as Intelligence liaisons aboard vessels, or as special operations units in the field. This is not to be confused with Special Equestrian Asset forces, which do not follow the traditional command structure.

Ensign: Ensigns, though commissioned officers, do not command units in the field, but rather serve as Communications officers, relaying orders and unit information between Fleet command, Flight command, field officers, and unit commanders.

Field Officers:
Commandant: Commandants are the highest ranking Field Officers, and serve as small forces specialists, commanding Flight forces and coordinating their assaults with Fleet operations.

Chief Warrant Officer: Chief Warrant Officers coordinate a maximum of three Operations Groups of vessels and/or two Regiments of Flight teams.

Warrant Officer: Warrant officers serve to coordinate Operations Groups, which consist of two or three vessels of the same or similar classification. Warrant Officers also serve to coordinate and direct supply and evacuation efforts.

Non-commissioned Officers
Master Chief Petty Officer: Master Chiefs serve as vessel commanders. Tradition stipulates that anypony in command of a vessel is referred to as its captain, even if they are not a captain in rank.

Fleet Petty Officer: FPO's serve to coordinate the efforts of Flight teams and Gunner teams, vessel and fighter operations. FPOs are the first rank to receive flight training to pilot vessels.

Chief Petty Officer: Chief Petty Officers are the first combat officer rank naval ponies achieve. Each CPO has command over a Squad. CPO's can command Gunner teams aboard a vessel in the absence of a Master Chief or FPO.

Petty Officer First Class: First Class petty officers serve to organize vessel operation- separating staff into crews, and crews into shifts, assigning work details and non-combat tasks. First Classes can command squads of six to eight enlisted ponies, or two Flight teams.

Petty Officer Second Class: Second Classes serve in Flight teams, two to three pony units with at least one pegasus. Used in formations alongside vessels, Flight teams serve as fighter escorts and saboteurs.

Enlisted Ponies:
Midships: Midships personnel make up the bulk of vessel operations. Though unspecialized, midships are trained in all aspects of vessel operation, and serve as Jack-of-all-Trades, filling in for other crewmates as needed.

Apprentice Midships: Basic Training graduates. Apprentices do not yet have enough experience to be given specialized tasks or training.
Recruit: Entry level for naval personnel. Recruits are not given combat postings until they advance to Apprentice Midships, usually the result of graduation from Basic.

Peacekeeper Military Structure
Below are the details for the Peacekeeper military structure of both the ground forces and the naval services.

Ground Forces
To be determined later

Naval
Naval forces overall consist of vessels, be they airships, naval ships, or chariot mounted teams. Colloquially, the former are simply referred to as "Fleet", and the latter as "Flight". Fleet forces are separated into single vessels, Operations Groups of two or three vessels, and Action Groups consisting of two Ops Groups. At this time, there are insufficient vessels in Fleet's forces to designate larger groupings, aside from overall Fleet command.

Flight forces are considerably more specialized, and thus have far more flexible unit designations. In general, a Flight team consists of at least one chariot pegasus and one or two other ponies as gunners or reconnaissance depending on mission needs. A Squad consists of four Flight Teams, one of which serves as heavy weapons. Five Squads form a regiment, and two or more Regiments form a Division. Ponies in Flight teams are not always Naval personnel, though the pegasus component in each unit must at the very least receive naval training in order to qualify for active duty in the field.

Royal Guard rank & structure

Ranks
Grand Master: Chosen by the previous Grand Master all four orders of the Royal Guard have their own pony who over sees all that their order does. Yet unlike any rank within the Royal Guard's the Grand Master alone determines what qualifies a pony to succeed them, and through the orders history there have been some raised from the ranks of the squires. Though some may find this strange only the Princesses can rule a Grand Masters selection invalid.

Lady / Lord: Within each city a single member of the royal guard is raised to the rank of Lady or Lord and given domain over the entire city. With this prestigious honor of looking out for an Equestrian cities well being the pony is also granted a nobility for their service.

Captain: Having proved leadership capabilities along with showing true mastery of their chosen discipline a Knight can be raised to the rank of a Captain. Given control of a cities district and those guardponies assigned to it, a captains is the final word when it comes to their district. With only the best being assigned to Canterlot, and the only the most exceptional given reign over the Canterlot Castle itself.

Knight: Upon completion of their specialty training as an Errant along with a final test given by their trainer, a pony attains the rank of Knight. Often charged with overseeing patrols and investigations the Knight is often the first taste of leadership a Royal Guard member will receive along with the expectation that they'll take on Errants to train of their own. Though for as Many Errants as their are in the Royal Guard the number of Knight's is always low, making these some of the most elite ponies in Equestria.

Errant: When a Knave decides on their specialty within the Royal Guard and begins that formal training they become a Errant. Of note a pony must have risen to the rank of Errant to be eligible to join the Celestial Cavaliers, Knights of Luna, or Star Wardens.

Knave: The lowest working rank of the Royal Guard, they are also the second most numerous after the Errant. Still determining what type of role they wish to fulfill in the Royal Guard a pony at this point is still undecided or has recently been raised from a Squire. To advance to an Errant a Knave must not only select a specialty, but must also petition to study under a Knight. Of note a pony's cutie mark may have little to do with what specialty they choose to strive for.

Squire: Little more than trainee's these are ponies are often still going through the Royal Academy training. Tasked with various maintenance related chores along with physical and mental training routines a squire must prove themselves worthy to attain the rank of Knave.

Structure:
Coming soon.
