Gentle Melody
XSGP - Train Station

Melody stepped off of the train, her large brimmed sunhat shielding the rays of the midday sun as she let her wings stretch out behind her. It had been a long and somewhat unexpected train ride, however it felt good to her to finally be seeing friends. 'It feels like it's been so long since I've seen everyone. Even Breaker feels very far away to me, the only pony I've seen recently seems to be Vinyl. Which has been great and amazing but I feel like I've been secluded away from everypony as well...' Her thoughts drifted back to the last time that she really felt like she had been around everypony, which brought back memories of the battle she fought in and how her home was destroyed.

Thinking better then to dwell on it, she shook her head to clear it and looked around the platform. 'Nopony told me what I was supposed to be here for... Or really where to go beyond coming to the school, so where do I go now...?'

Doctor Gem Shard - XSGP - Train Station

Gem had been checking his watch, nearly unable to contain his excitement to once again see Melody. It had been months. Much too long to see his friend again. Watching the train pull into the station a broad smile grow as the vehicle came to a stop, its doors sliding open as the conductor called out the destination. Throughout the numerous cars, ponies every every time stepped onto the platform. Many of them the doctor recognized as mechanics, lab assistants, or security taking their shift. Others he could assume were trainies or simple those invited to learn in the field.

Seeing a familiar green pegasus step off the train, Gem rushed over to his old friend, calling out to her, "Melody! Melody, it's wonderful to see you again! How was the train ride, how is everything going? I heard Vinyl gave you a place to stay while repairs are still going on! I still need to talk to her at some point but that will be later, now you're here! I'm so glad you're here. Oh this is going to be so exciting you're going to love what I have done! I finished it my Magnum Opus! It took so long, many many sleepless nights, Fire can attest to that, but that doesn't matter now cause it's done and you're here and I can't wait for you to see it, to try it! You're going to love it!" the doctor gave pause, catching himself in his rambling, clearing his throat, "Sorry, rambling. Might I welcome you to the Xaiden School for Gifted Ponies, might I also escort you to the labs, where my surprise for you awaits."

Gentle Melody
XSGP - Train Station

Melody did the only thing she was able to do throughout Doc's extra eccentric greeting, even for him. 'I have no idea what a Magnum Opus is... But whatever it is, it must be incredibly impressive for him to get this excited about it.' Once the Doctor was finished and welcomed her, Melody did the only thing she could really do to show communicate her feelings as she gave the Doctor a hug with a gentle smile. It left so much up to how perceptive a pony was in terms of how much emotion they could gather from the gesture, but for Melody it was the best way she had to tell ponies that she cared about them.

After parting the hug she dipped her head in the direction of the school, indicating she was ready to go and the saddle bags she carried were all the luggage she brought.

Firesong hovered at the door of the school, excited to see her friend again. As soon as Doc and Mel were within her sight she flew straight at them and enveloped Melody in a hug. "It's so good to see you! I can't wait to here how your time at Vinyl's was!" Firesong said, taking a good look at Mel. She'd managed to get decently good at reading the musicians body language and could tell the answers to simple questions based purely on that, especially if the question had an emotional element, like how she was feeling and how she liked or disliked something. When body language failed, Fire kept a pad of paper in her saddlebag. "Though I'm sure you miss Breaker an awful lot, I trust he's safe, we haven't heard any bad news lately and we normally are one of the first places to overhear about that kind of thing. I'm so lucky to have managed to have so much time with Gem these past few months, we'll have to see what we can do about getting Breaker some leave."

She returned to her hoover. "But we can talk about that later! Gem made something to show you, it's down in the lab, come take a look!"

Doctor Gem Shard - XSGP - Train Station to Labs

Seeing Fire engage Melody, the doctor couldn't help but pitch in as they made their way back to the school. "Oh Melody, I forgot to mention, Fire and I decided to actually make our relationship official. Well I mean we've been seeing each other and she's been helping so much with my project. I don't know everything just seemed to click. Oh, since you've been with Vinyl have you been able to work on anything with her. Maybe make a duet album? I hope the G3M has been holding up well. I can come by and fine tune it if you really need me to. Sorry, sorry I'm getting ahead of myself, we can talk about it in a bit."

Continuing to prattle one, Gem Shard explained everything he had been working in the past six months, in the way of upgrading various airship weaponry, but minding to steer clear about the specifics of the amulet he had made for Melody, at least until the trio came to the labs beneath the school. Reaching his area, the doctor couldn't help but smile. As they came to his testing table. suspended above it held between two clamps was the viridian Zeropaz, a gemstone of he had created by fusing zircon, topaz, and peridot with the help of Valence, Flame, and Clockwork. Without them he would have never been able to create the vacuum chamber needed to achieve the temperatures required to meld all three stones into one. Wrapped around the precious stone was velvet straps to hold the gemstone in place against the user's neck, he had gone with a jade coloring to fit the coloring. "Alright here it is, my masterpiece, its why I asked you to come here. Here, here let me help you put it on!" the doctor's horn lit up as he levitated the piece of enchanted jewelry over to Melody, allowing her to put it on. "So, what do you think? Oh, you may enjoy this. Softly press the gemstone and try it Gentle, try talking."

After chatting with Doc and Firesong that morning, Val felt much more alert and caffeinated, which helped in her latest project- a time delay ignition system to activate a thermite warhead in a controlled fashion. Igniting the stuff was easy- figuring out how to only ignite it when she wanted to was... trickier. Her initial approach had been to use timer devices- which worked well enough. The problem was, it took a book of calculations to have the weapons detonate on, or near, a target. Valence didn't see how crunching numbers in one's head was such a deal breaker, but the brass had insisted, so back to the drawing board she went.

Ideally, an impact trigger would be perfect- provided she could design one that wouldn't go off when the round was fired, but would when it impacted a target. Val had been pondering this for some time- and aside from managing to concoct a harmless foaming agent that could be used to test the ignition system, there wasn't much to show for it. The foam dummy shells at least worked the same way- two inert chemicals mixed together with a catalyzer added in to cause the reaction, which in this case, caused lots and lots of poofy foam instead of thermite. It was good for practicing, but hadn't helped her make a breakthrough.

Nova and Onyx with with her parents in Canterlot for the day, and with Doc and Firesong gone, it was pretty much just her in the lab. Val nudged her classes up her nose with her magic, and got to work. About two hours later, and covered in foam, Valence had devised a system where the force of one impact in the rear of the shell would light the catalyst, and the force of impact would break the chamber that held the lit catalyst. The downside was that the shells would have to be filled with the catalyzer before firing, in order to keep them from going off prematurely. But three of the four dummy shells she tested worked perfectly, while one didn't go off at all. So that was a pretty good success rate, all things considered.

The sound of approaching voices must have meant Doc and Fire were back, maybe even with Mel in tow. Val scribbled down her progress notes, stuffed the notebook into her lab coat pocket, and trotted out to meet her friends.

Val arrived just in time to see Doc show Mel the Zeropaz. "Oh hey, Mel! So good to see you again! I hope you like it, Doc has been busting his flank on it, and suckering the rest of us into helping him," Val said, giggling. "Seriously though, I was more than happy to help out. Anything for a friend," Val said, smiling warmly and wiping a stray tear. She hadn't seen Melody in such a long time.

Gentle Melody
XSGP: Labs

The sheer amount of things being said sent Melody's mind into a bit of a haze, and before she knew it there was a necklace around her neck. The color of the stone was gorgeous, and the metal's color matched the element she wore around her neck perfectly... Almost too perfectly- as if it was made especially for her. That moment was when The Doctor's words caught her ears 'try talking'.

'What is he mad!?' Was the first thought she had come to her mind, along with the surge of emotions that began to overwhelm her. 'I'd given up on speaking long ago... And yet I just show up here and The Doctor just tells me to speak!? Just like that!?' As her own emotions surged, her Element almost flared up in response; sending waves and waves of the emotions of everyone else in the room. Above all the one that stood out the most was anticipation and excitement, radiating strongest off of The Doctor. The sudden influx of emotions she could sense almost instantly calmed her own, enough to give her the briefest moment of clarity. In that moment she touched the gemstone in the center with the tip of her wing ever so slightly, and threw herself once more into the fray of disappointment and silence.

Firesong jumped up and clapped her hooves in excitement at the tiny sound that came from Mel. "It worked! It just needs a little magnification. Or for you to talk a little louder. But either way it worked!" She flew at Mel and surrounded her in a hug "It's good to hear your voice coming from you and not from me. Gem's been playing your recordings for months trying to get every pitch and nuance into that gem there and I've been testing it to prove his theories. Try it again!"

Val's eyes went wide as a grin broke out across her face. "It worked! oh, how wonderful! Now we just have to adjust it! Though I do have to insist you let me help. We don't want any amplification to crack the atomic structure, the whole thing may fail. Or worse, explode. Now that we know it works, we can tweak it little by little," Val said, trotting over to the blackboard. She picked up a piece of chalk and her lab notebook, and began transcribing equations and formulas from her notebook onto the blackboard. "I think we should hear Mel do a full range of sound- you know, like scales or something, so we can see if the low volume is uniform across all frequencies, or only affects certain tones or phonics. I mean, if we increase the volume across the board, but only the 'wha' sound is soft? Then every other sound she makes would shatter glass," Val said, pondering the board and erasing and re-wrting a few things here and there.

"So, to that end- I think you should sing us a set of scales, Mel. Please?"

Doctor Gem Shard - XSGP - Labs

Hearing the soft spoken response come from Gentle, the doctor couldn't help but feel overly excited, "Ha! HAHA! It works it Works! It actually works oh praise the Sisters! Months of planning, oh my almost a year actually! But that doesn't matter because it works!" the doctor couldn't help himself but jump for joy. All of the effort, all of the time, and materials and it was certainly worth all of it even for just the tiniest sound from Gentle.

Seeing the Val and Fire bombard, Gentle with questions, and requests. Knowing Gentle, this wasn't something she would entirely desire. "Now, now, lets all just calm down a bit." the doctor advised, stepping in, "Getting one's voice back is a big thing. So, we should see what Melody thinks before we start recalibrating occurs, or anything like that." Looking to Gentle, the doctor couldn't help but beam, "So Melody, what do you think?"

Gentle Melody
XSGP: Labs

Everything was a blur, everybody around her and anything they might have been saying was drowned out by a silence that had fallen over Melody's ears since that small sound escaped from the thing attached to her neck. Everything seemed to be moving in slow motion, the world outside her was completely nonexistent as she felt her eyes well up with tears. She wasn't sure what was going on, or what this thing was; but somehow she had heard a voice HER voice for the first time in almost a year. Instantly she could feel her face becoming drenched in a torrent of tears, 'I don't remember myself crying this much since... Well since Cloudsdale and Smoking...'

She was sure it was not what they wanted to hear, but the next sounds to come out of Melody's new voice were of sobbing and crying. The intense emotions began to radiate off of her, fueled by the element hanging around her neck that's music shaped gem started to glow.
"W- *sob* what do I think? I-I don't know *sob* what to say."

Firesong put her hoof down for quiet and just gave Mel a hug. "Sorry about all of the questions." she said before sitting down and giving everyone a look that said "quiet" "Take all the time you want to decide what to think." she said before being quiet herself, realizing how overwhelming it must be for Mel. Not just everypony talking at once, but getting her voice back after so long. It must be too many emotions for her to process all at once.

Mustang Magus
XSGP – Train station

Stepping clear of the train Mustang steps off to the side taking a moment to stretch his legs. “Welcome to Xaiden's School for Gifted Ponies, also known as the worst kept secret in Equestria and home to the X-ponies freelancer team.” Pointing to the airship landing pad the stallion makes sure that everypony was off before continuing. “Stay clear of those, never know when something's going to show up or flee. Beyond that there's the main house where we're going.”

Longshot
XSGP - Train Station

Though he tried to hide it, Longshot was pleased to be off the train. He did a few stretches, flexing his legs. "A freelancer team, huh?" He couldn't help but think on the Night Watch. "Not officially tied to the crown, then?"

“More like not tied to the military power structure. The idea is they can react while command is arguing over things. Not sure how well it's worked out, Tyrfang's a part of one of the units I think so he'd be a better pony to ask about that.” Starting towards the house Mustang slowly makes his way down the platform steps. “Beyond the freelancer's there's dozens of labs and ponies beneath the house.” Pointing towards a bunk house and another building he keeps moving towards the main mansion. “Over there's the student bunkhouse along with the main classrooms.”

Longshot
XSGP - Train Station

Longshot nodded, it made enough sense to him. Give those who had proven their skills and, more importantly, their decision making the ability to act how they saw fit. Give your best resources the flexiblity to get involved in whatever situation required them. So long as they still had to answer to someone after the fact, presumably the Princesses, it seemed functional. He mentally went over Tyr's performance when it was pointed out he was part of the... unit. He certainly showed himself to be decisive when a threat revealed itself, and he continued to stand his ground when his tactics proved his futile. Perhaps he could use more flexibility in his thinking when under fire, but if he was a good representation of the group then they must be good.

Longshot listened as Mustang pointed out landmarks, but had a question that kept tugging at his attention. Was this just to show him around or was this where the Princesses had intended to put him? It was Tyr's suggestion to bring him here, but the Princesses approved it... All in all he wasn't certain if he should just relax and enjoy the sightseeing, maybe talk shop with this other stal who made firearms and enchanted bullets, or if this was some way of seeing if he was fit to join them...

He kept his thoughts to himself as he was led away from the station, but his gait was noticeably tight as he was uncertain what his role here was...
We are what we repeatedly do.

Tyrfang Peacemaker
Xaiden's School for Gifted Ponies - Train Station

The stallion would've said something in regards of the freelance team, as well as explaining that this was actually his first time coming onto the base ever since it was built. However, he was quiet, his prior irritation towards Mustang completely absent. Tyrfang didn't look all that focused either, and was in a bit of a cold sweat, and the air to him smelt slightly of iron. At the moment, the soldier was making a huge effort to remain calm.

Spirit Wind & Starlight

The pair were relatively quiet throughout the trip, they had never even heard of this place until recently even. "It's nice to finally get off the train at least." Starlight muses, not really enjoying the rides as much as she used to. Thanks to the surprise attack. Still she was glad both Spirit and Mustang were here for moral support.

Spirit stifled a yawn and shakes her head as they head down the steps, truth be told she wasn't too interested in the goings on here, her place was outdoors after all. She couldn't help but still marvel at the sight of the school at least, but "Science" decidicated places make her jittery. "So, what will we show him first?" She asks having no idea herself.

Trying to keep the concern from his face given Star's history with trains the stallion continues towards the mansion. “Figured we'd go see Gem Shard first, then see what happens. Though that reminds me, Tyrfang, Longshot, did the princesses say anything about where Longshot's boarding?”

Tyrfang Peacemaker
XSGP - Train Station

Unfocused, Tyrfang hadn't really been following the questions, until he realized that there had been a few moments of silence. With a bit of a panic, he cleared his throat.

"W-Well, couldn't recall." He said. The soldier was still stuck on the fact that the building here was just a remodel of the mafia base. "Let's just go in, see if I can find any of my squadmates. Let them give a tour, or something."

And before waiting for a response, he set off at a pace much quicker than he meant.
