Renew let out a sigh of relief before going back to her equations next to the telotype. "You're an EMP with volatile emotional states. I've seen a powerful unicorn go off the deep end after being haunted by her demons, I'd rather not see it happen again." She took a moment and stopped with her biochemical related math problem and let the possibility of that other pony helping her. "Breaker...do you think it would be wise to just ask her for her input? She knew far more about neurology than I ever did...."

Nightingale & Elegant Shard

Hoofterlands - Outside Appleoosa

Nightingales eyes light up with smoke, the shadows cast on the table split the table apart. "You don't know demons..."

Elegant stepped in front of Nightingale. "Stop it! The doctor is only concerned for you... now isn't the time to fight."

The smoke cleared from her eyes as he brother looked at her. The shadowy tendrils picked the table up and put it back together, wrapping themselves around it to hold it in place. Ravens picked up the map and papers, flying them back onto the refurbished table. "I don't... I'm sorry."

Elegant sighed, rubbing his cheek against hers. "It's okay, everything is going to be fine."

Nightingale swallowed down the feeling that nothing was fine, the screams of the dragons in the storehouse echoed through her mind. Her blank expression staring at the teen dragon across the room.

Khaem
Hoofterlands - Appleoosa Outskirts

Khaem was putting the last of her notes down, a bit disappointed that nothing too notable to her in terms of data had come from the discussion. She may have gotten a few names of notable Equestrians to look for more on the subject matter, but they were mostly general statements on magic and psychology. She was about to stow the little book away, before watching the desk split and the remaining conversation to finish, and added "Emotional" before closing it.

"...Time is also the hoard my dear." Khaem spoke up, to when she was being referred to before, but didn't respond. "There will be situations where each precious second is needed and incredibly important, something I'm sure you'd understand as a commander in war, and this one would understand as someone in the medical profession. So quick, precise, and not wasteful, are the ways to get things done."

The researcher got up from her seat, and smoothed out her jacket. "And I do believe I've ssid nothing about defecting. I may have said I was surrendering, but not defecting. Surprised in how quick you all are in letting anyone among your people. I'd expect based on your comrade's dracophobic attitude to be a more consensual sentiment, and I'm sure you'd understand in my lack of interest of associating myself with that."

Khaem shook her head, and took out her bag of element trail mix, and popped some nuts and a purple pill in her maw. While putting it away, she looked towards the tent entrance in curiosity. "You said this was Appleoosa? I believe it was a small settlement our forces had razed a while back. ...Would you mind if I take a look?"

Twenty Sided - Hoofterlands - Edge of the Border

Twenty looked at the teletype message. He had no idea who had sent this message or how they would have known that the airship was near. He certainly hadn't sent it. Maybe one of the pegasi had sent it? But how? Looking away from Iron side, the zebra looked around sudden feeling as if he was being watched. It was unnerving.

"I'm guessing there wasn't anything saying who actually sent this message is there?" the zebra asked, "W-well you can tell me later. Let's get the hell out of here. Though I have a chariot waiting just beyond those rocks." he continued, pointing to an outcrop on the horizon. "Can't let them just sit there waiting."

Shaking his head towards both the golden stallion's good cheer vanishes. “We're not in Appleoosa, that's what we're here to take whelp.” Eye's half lidded the stallion glares at the dragon with dead eyes. “I've half a mind to just let Nightingale escort you to Canterlot right now. As for your suggestion Renew, no we don't ask her. Did you send the earlier message off to Flame?”

Nightingale & Elegant Shard

Hoofterlands - Appleoosa

Nightingale stomped her hoof into the dirt, "Don't talk about me like I'm not here." Nightingale turned to the Captain, cocking her head to look at the nearby teenling dragon with a smile, her eyes flaring with black smoke. 'And Captain... I'd be more than happy to see him off."

Elegant turned to Renew, whispering quietly out of Nightingales earshot. "You said her? Who's her? By the Captain's reaction, it doesn't seem he finds... her, favorable."

"How about we send a troop with her? I'm sure that somepony at Canterlot would be pleased to have a dragon in one piece." Renew said and then looked at Nightengale. "And I'm sure if that if there's any further trechery on this teen's part you'll be sure to see that it doesn't compromise the rest of us." she added before getting up again and standing next to Elegant.

"How about we say that...I understand your situation better than you might think. I've been where you are now before with worrying about my own sister's mental condition and...well....I lost her. A semblance of her is still alive, locked up somewhere, but after the atrocities she committed she might as well be dead. But she was brilliant. Probably still is in her own way, I can't bare to go see her."

Khaem
Hoofterlands - Appleoosa Outskirts

Ah, there's the hostility I expected. Khaem thought, sitting herself back down. She almost felt satisfied, in almost a sick manner that her poor expectations were met.

"My mistake." She said, sounding almost apologetic. "Was not aware. I'm not one to memorize war fronts or territory boundaries, they are rarely up to date to the time. Oh, and my dear..."

The researcher turned her attention to the shadow manipulator. She remembered what was said in the tent in her presence, and could see the resemblance. "I am certainly the enemy of you, your friends and the rest of your species most likely. However, I am here in peace and surrendering of my own free will, and by my proud heritage, I swear that I will not harm a single hair on an Equestrian's head unintentionally. But, my dear, your bloodlust is astounding."

As the dragon continued, sparks of static electricity was arcing off her occasionally, and the air smelt with a tinge of ozone around her. "I will say this, with none of the pretenses of kindness or caring of your peers and colleagues, that you remind me like most of my distant relatives. Your hatred of my kind parallels quite nicely with the hatred and disregard most of them have for you ponies. Understandably so, and if you were to strike me down, I would feel no malice or anger for it. However, my body being on the ground devoid of life will not change who you are."

"And if I may add," Khaem now changed her subjects to everyone in the tent. "I am a little insulted that you all are taking me lightly. I may not be a soldier, and you mister commander can nullify my magic, but I am still a dragon affiliated with Darkfang, and you can certainly tell I'm not a thick headed, muscle brained lunkhead like most of my kind."

Elegant Shard & Nightingale

Hoofterlands - Appleoosa

Elegant looked at the mare with empathy. "I'm... sorry Doctor. Let's talk about something else shall we?"

Nightingale looked towards the Captain. "Yes, let's. Captain I can easily get behind their lines, we need a plan of attack. Every second we waste is time lost, and pony lost."

Elegant shook his head. "I disagree, we need a solid plan. Something that WON'T risk as many troops as, say, a forward assault."

"And the four of us could do this... I could destroy them from the inside out if I was allowed to go in and do what I was trained to do!"

Balthier Breaker
Hoofterlands – Appleoosa outskirts

Laughter was the only response the golden stallion could respond with to the dragon's outburst. Waving Nightingale off with a hoof the stallion has to use his other hoof to keep him from falling over from laughter. “Taking you lightly, that's what I'm doing?” Laughing hard Breaker has to hold himself up with both hooves. “Oh for an observant teen you are woefully informed about where you are or even who you are dealing with. Also thank you for confirming I can stop a dragons magic from working that will be of great help when we rip to shreds your people's battleline.”

Khaem
Hoofterlands - Appleoosa Outskirts

Khaem shrugged. The teen was slightly annoyed at being laughed at, but she dismissed it and focused more on the compliment that was embedded within it. "Perhaps I am. Although from the way you all talk, and judging the way the little shadow pony's abillities behave and how you are all regarded, I'm certain that my life would be in danger if it really was." She looked over to the shadow pony. "Although I can guess that it most likely still is with her around."

"Anyhow, I believe I've already iterated my irritation towards most of my brethren. I'd speak ill of our Leader Darkfang as well, but she is our leader and even some elders regard her like a saint in a cult." She continued, rolling her eyes. "She may have some points I agree with, but a genocide of an entire species because of self ire is both a waste of time, and fair atrocity if they have some form of sentience. There are more productive endeavors the resources could be spent upon. But of course, I have no say in the matter, so I just show my support in my own way and make sure I don't say anything incriminating enough to have me killed."

"But my dear, I should really be thanking you." She said, getting up from her chair. And although fairly out of character, and she knew it, she gave a fairly respectful bow. "That magic is the solution to a long standing problem that I've had for almost a year now. Although not my initial intention for coming here, I'd like to know more about it greatly."

The teen fell quiet, and thought deeply considering her options. With the situation she was in, she was likely to be killed for letting a spy in their ranks if she were to go back, and either killed or placed in servitude if she were to continue along her original plan. That would still probably have her declared as a traitor and coward among the alliance, which would further raise her chances of getting killed, and worse, take away the little respect her brethren had of her regardless if she was able to silence the spy or not. So she was in a lose-lose situation at the moment.

But, the ponies seemed very, very merciful, almost to a fault. She understood the hatred directed towards the dragons, but it was war, plenty of the alliance was part of it because they hated the Equestrians likewise. Not to mention, they were winning. If they were able to eliminate all the Elders and Darkfang, that wouldn't be a problem for them, but there was bound to be a power struggle. Lots more needless dragon deaths, but more importantly, an opening for the throne.

She sat back in her chair, and her claws returned back to her labcoat pockets. "I would actually like to rescind my surrender from early, but before you jump at my throats, I'd like to as a question. If you were to defeat the Alliance and the dragon army, do you plan on eliminating the current Elders and the alliance head in some way or another? And do you plan on waging your own genocide as well?"

Khaem shifted her attention back to the shadow pony, and quickly added. "Your opinion is invalid on this topic. I already know what it is, so please stay quiet save your words to threaten me and my kin some other time."

Renew let out a snort. It wasn't the same all out laugh that Breaker had used, but it had the same spirit behind it. "Rescind your surrender? You are aware that that's not something you can do, right? If you keep your surrender we lock you up in a jail until you can get a right and fair trial eventually. If you 'rescind your surrender' we either give you to "the little shadow pony" to do whatever she feel like doing with you or we send you somewhere to have every bit of information in you tortured out." she said adding a dry laugh.

"As to our plans, why do you think we'd be stupid enough to tell you what even the basics of our plans are? If you were to go back to your kin, not that you will be, there's no way we'd want them to have that information. And seeing as you're not going back why would we waste our time telling you? And don't even bother making any plans of escape, you brought yourself here and you were stupid enough to do it in a circle of unicorns that can do a wide range of things from tearing you from limb to limb or totally encasing you in bullet proof glass, all with a single thought. So there's your tiniest piece of what the pony's advantage is. Sure, dragon fire may be a great and powerful magic, but Equestrian magic is strong, diverse and lends itself to cooperation and creativity."

Forcing down his laughter he stallion chortles for a moment before getting it under control. “Hold on Renew, lets see how far this dragon den goes, besides I'm beginning to think we're not dealing with your typical teen. You have after all met the ones following Torlem.” Turning towards the teen the stallion steps around the table, “To my knowledge if we could remove the so called head of this draconic driven genocide we would be more then happy to negotiate with the more level headed elders like Driskel and Arla. This war for ponies has always been about survival, though if dragon's keep up with these atrocities, we're going to end up with many that share Nightingale's impressions. So no the only ones we'd feel we'd have to kill are those who won't talk and demand our deaths.”

Khaem
Hoofterlands - Appleoosa Outskirts

It was Khaem's turn to chuckle. "I don't entirely agree with your judgement that Driskel and Arla are level headed, since they argue so much with themselves. Driskel may be smarter I think though."

A lot of thoughts ran through the dragon's head, now that this new information had been confirmed. But one thing was clear, the outcome of the Equestrians winning the war was a much better outcome than if Darkfang's desires came to fruition. Both for science, and her career ambitions perhaps.

"Alright, then it's decided." She declared. "I, Khaem, shall turn my back to the Draconic Alliance, and offer my assistance to aid the Equestrians. I'm hoping we can figure something out so we don't upset any of your kind, because I'm sure you would object to this, my little shadow pony."

"Oh, I'd like to add, I was lying about the war atrocities. I'm not a soldier, I'm a researcher and a scientist." She said, digging into her bag, and then placing the book she had been writing in with all her research in. She then opened her lab coat to show all the surgical and biopsy equipment she kept organized within, the chain mail she wore revealed as well. "You may do that whole charm thing to weigh the pain or what have you, I am confident I have not harmed anyone whether in malice, or when under my knife. Proper anesthetics, and nothing without consent, even from that one pony that was under my employ. And I am an expert in Dracobiology, and have a meticulous understanding of your biology, at least for bat ponies."

"And my dear doctor. Who ever said anything about dragon fire? " Khaem continued. "What about Dragon electricity? Or Water? I believe if you were to equate me to one of your kind, I believe I'd be... What did Coma call them... an EMP?"

Nightingale and Elegant Shard

Hoofterlands - Outside Appleoosa

Nightingale trotted up alongside Breaker, "I don't like this. Putting aside my personal hatred, this dragon is rash and arrogant. What real use could we gain from taking this one in?"

The flap of the tent was suddenly flung open by a corporal rushing in. Panting heavily before presenting a salute to Captain Breaker. "Sir, Commander Wither has just touched down in the camp!"

"Plenty" Renew said, taking in the information. "We've known for awhile that Driskel is a softer dragon, it's nice to have confirmation on that. I only wish I could get close enough to them to take off the obstinate head and let the peaceful one defect. But more pressing than that, what do you know about dragon biology? Biology is my own field. If you want to go back to that surrender thing I would be very interested in knowing what you know."

Khaem
Hoofterlands - Appleoosa Outskirts

I've been called worse. Khaem thought, disregarding the comments on her personality. After all, I'm assuming that I am certainly a surprising, and quite valuable asset.

And as if on cue, the questions already started coming in for her. She held her head up quite proudly, looking very smug. "Funny you should mention that, I believe I have more information on those two Elders in regards to their condition, on Driskel's personal request, although I don't have the memo from her to verify anymore..."

"But back to the biology topic, there is nothing you could ask me that I couldn't answer about a dragon's physiology, sans personal variables such as an Elder's psychology or dragon's favorite food. Locations of Major Arteries, natural chinks in our armor, composition of dragon scale, dracopuberty, and even the the hatching and nursing process of our kind. If there's something about dragons that aren't clear to you, I am certain I can fill in the gaps." She continued, boastfully. Khaem seemed a lot more relaxed as she was chattering about dragons and her own biology, that she looked to be more in her element than when she was pretending to be surrender. "And I'd be happy to oblige my dear doctor, but I wouldn't [mind if you were to share any details on your own kinds biology as well, it's be greatly appreciated. I've been researching ponies you see, as a side project, to hopefully document the species before they went extinct. Although the probability of that is less, I've gathered enough data to want to finish that project."

Noting the corporal's announcement Breaker couldn't help but give a slight chuckle at what the hatchling had said earlier. “Well this sorted itself out rather quickly, and for your knowledge Khaem, you've been speaking to more then a few E.M.P.'s. Beyond that Commander Wither's can defiantly determine where to send you. Oh and Nightingale, yes this teen is rather rash and arrogant, I wouldn't be surprised that we're dealing with one of the elders offspring.” Stepping round the table he motions for Nighingale to follow, “Mustn't keep the old stallion waiting.”

EMP Commander Wither

Hoofterlands - Outside Appleoosa

Lavender energy enveloped the tent door as the Commander strolled through the gap in the tent. "Never gets old Captain. Standing in the entrance, his white mane flowing down to his ruffled sleeves, his lavender eyes beaming through his glasses as he turned to the corporal. "That will be fine Corporal." The corporal saluted before ducking out of the tent. "Good to see you all again. Captain, Elegant, Nightingale, Renew, and..." Looking somewhat quizzically over at the female teen-ling. "... I'm sorry but we haven't been introduced." His eyes wandered to meet Breaker's, a stern glare of "why is a dragon in the main tent?"

Not wasting any time the stallion motions towards the teen, “Commander Withers, meet Khaem, Khaem this is Commander Withers. Khaem here is a defector who wishes to help us defeat the Alliance, I also suspect given their intellect and observation skills she's one of the Elder's kids.” Starting to step past his superior and towards the tent exit a lookg of "Look a dragon of your own commander" twinkling in his eye, “Now if you'll excuse me I need to look over our troops with Nightingale.”
